The Healing Tao USA summer retreat program at Big Indian,N.Y. has formally
become Healing Tao University, offering academic credit for B.A.
completion and graduate degrees. These credits are offered in conjunction
with Great Western University in San Francisco, a graduate school that has
been California State accredited for over 40 years. Big Indian will be a
distance learning campus. Students gain eligibility for academic credits
with Michael Winn's appointment as Professor of Tao Arts. This allows students (or
students under other HT teachers under Michael's supervision as "assistants") to
complete their last two years of undergraduate studies towards a Bachelor
of Arts or to work for a Masters or Phd. degree in topics as arcane as
Taoist Inner Alchemy! A week long course will be worth 9 credits, a 2 day seminar 3 credits, and thus 5 weeks at Big Indian (45 units) will equal a year's worth of class credits. (The second year must be taken directly thru matriculating at GWU and paying them for additional credit courses, which can still be taken at Big Indian or by audio tape/distance learning on the internet with Prof. Winn. This may open up new horizons for students seeking to study something they love and live for. This summer's Big Indian Healing Tao faculty will include 16 teachers. There will be 20 full week retreats and 4 two day offerings, a total of 8 new courses: Lee Holden is offering TAO YIN (Taoist yoga) for the first time. David Twicken is teaching FENG SHUI COMPASS/5 PILLARS CHINESE ASTROLOGY, giving us a way to link external and internal chi management. Joyce Gayheart is doing cuttting edge work with a retreat on FELDENKREIS, ALEXANDER, AND CHI KUNG. This is a new stage in her comeback from a devastating car injury in 1992, and we welcome her radiant presence back at Big Indian. Sharon Smith is spreading her wings and teaching Wu Dang Tai Chi, a dynamic form she learned from TK Shih and has polished for 17 years. (She is not working on Big Indian staff this year, so redirect your questions to the Registrar or to me). Larry Tupper has re-emerged to share his superb CNT skills with CNT II (Deep Organ Wind Channels). Two other newcomers are not HT instructors but are tops in their field. Master Li Jun Feng is teaching "Unconditional Love Qigong" his revelation after coaching the Beijing and China National Wushu (martial arts) teams for 15 years. Frank Allen, the only person certified by Kumar Frantzis to teach his Beijing School lineage Pa Kua Chang is offering this powerful spiralling art and its connection to the I Ching and our energy body. We are also booking the National Qigong Conference in Baltimore ,Md. Gunther Weil is Chairman and I am President of the National Qigong (Chi Kung) Association (NQA), where we are lending our experience with the Healing Tao to get the national chi kung community together. If you want to join, there is a 10% discount for HTIA members as the HTIA itself is a member. They have an active website (www.nqa.org) and heavy media program producing a lot of referrals. Professional dues are $75, or pay only $25. for general membership (which is discounted back to you if you go to the $175 conference). All of these exciting events are part of the inevitable growth of the Tao arts in the West. If you haven't been to a retreat in a while, this is the time to do it -- before the Millennial comets and earthquakes strike. The biggest event of all I saved for last - the INSTRUCTOR'S TRAINING RETREAT WEEK. The word training has been added to emphasize it is a training, and a great one. Tao technology is an evolving art. This retreat is the best way to stay up with old and new friends and refine your skills. It is the most creative and fun week of the entire summer, and my personal favorite. It's totally a Let's-step-into-the-Void of-the-Present-Moment-Together week! The high quality of the Associate Instructor's we are certifying is dizzying. I'ill be teaching the Primordial Chi Kung in greater depth this year, a form that impressed many people last year. It combines the original 800 year old Tai Chi with Feng Shui, I Ching, and Internal Alchemy. Another great reason for going is the annual Summer Solstice Ceremony we perform. We link its power to the individual goals of each participant, and everyone agrees it really gives your energy body a powerful kick. So be there, or be square!
